ALL THE TRUTH ABOUT VENEERS

StartFragment

Most of us aren’t lucky enough to be born with the kind of brilliant smiles we see on TV, in movies, and in photos of celebrities in every magazine. Whether it’s staining, chipped teeth, or misalignment, there are a lot of imperfections that can make a person self-conscious and unhappy about their smile. While there are options like braces, crowns, and professional whitening to address these individual concerns, many patients are in search of a faster, all-in-one solution. That’s where veneers come in. In the hands of a skilled cosmetic dentist, veneers can immediately transform a patient’s teeth into the aesthetically perfect, white smile they’ve always wanted! Every veneer is custom-made to create the ideal version of each tooth in the way that best suits the patient. While all veneers are, in essence, a piece of custom-fitted material secured over an existing tooth to permanently perfect its appearance, there are two distinct types that a patient can choose between based on their preferences and individual circumstances.

Conventional porcelain veneers are thin, custom shaped pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front of a patient’s existing teeth. Porcelain is used for its durability, beauty, and natural-looking appearance. Each veneer is individually shaped, sculpted, and molded to fit your ideal smile. In order to keep the smile from looking unnatural or “bulky” due to the addition of the porcelain, a cosmetic dentist will shave off a very thin layer of the tooth the veneer will be bonded to. The width removed from the tooth is only around the width of a pen tip, but the difference is important! The shaving ensures that the perfect smile created by the veneers will look natural, like you were born with it! Because conventional porcelain veneers allow for the most beautiful results with the widest range of patients, they are the most commonly applied type of veneers.

For patients who do not want any enamel shaved off of their natural teeth, Lumineers can be a good second option. Lumineers, similar to conventional veneers, are also made of beautiful porcelain, but are ultrathin. They are also natural-looking and durable, but without having to take away any of the structure of the tooth underneath. Lumineers work well for patients with concerns about shaving down their natural teeth, but they also need to consider that, because Lumineers are bonded directly to their teeth, they can create a smile that appears slightly bulky and should only be used in situations where this effect can be minimized.

Regardless of the type, veneers are a durable, stain resistant, permanent beautifying procedure. If you are looking for a perfect smile with minimal waiting, veneers might be the aesthetic dental solution you’ve been looking for!
